Official board game adaptation of Howard Zinn’s book of the same name. Co-design with Jason Perez. Scheduled for publication in 2023 via the TESA Collective.

Ahoy

Asymmetric adventure game originally designed as Hyperspace Smuggler. Lay tiles to expand the board, deliver cards, and compete for control of the seas. Published by Leder Games in 2022.

Bloc by Bloc: Uprising

Co-design with T.L. Simons, original designer of Bloc by Bloc. Semi-cooperative board game simulating contemporary social protest and insurrectionary movements. Published by Out of Order Games in 2022.

Leviathan

A two-player mini-game recreating the final scene of Moby Dick. The Ahab player attempts to locate and harpoon Moby Dick, while the whale player attempts to ram and sink the Pequod. Available in full game and print-and-play versions.

First Nations of Catan

Alternate ruleset for Klaus Teuber’s Catan that interrogates dynamics of colonialism by allowing one player to play as the indigenous people of the island. Rules published alongside analysis in the Journal of Analog Game Studies.

A storytelling game / light-RPG that uses board game mechanics to model the origin and evolution of an institutional religion. Embrace and reject values, describe rituals and practices, and keep the faith alive for millennia. Seeking publication.

Hi, We’re The Mountain Goats!

Two-page storytelling game where players take turns making up fictional backstories for the songs of The Mountain Goats. First published in Anyone’s Game: Opening Moves anthology, also available at Itch.io.

Extension/Reversal

Short edugame allowing players to play out a moment of social crisis as a medium. Narrate media interactions and evolutions based on your card draws to elucidate the theories of Marshall McLuhan. Available here.

Playable theater / live action role playing game immersing players in book-saturated environments to explore the physicality of books, the unseen spaces between them, and the collaborative nature of research processes. Development ongoing.

Official PAX Unplugged Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunt / puzzle hunt with alternate reality game (ARG) elements. Players competed over the course of one week to solve puzzles, send emails, make phone calls, and send letters. Commissioned by ReedPOP events to promote PAX Unplugged board gaming convention 2018 & 2019.

Carnival Quests

A series of interlocking mini-games designed to allow attendees to explore the carnival world and interact with carnival characters as a part of the traveling art & activism installation “Carnival de Resistance.” A sample game document can be viewed here.

Rittenhouse Spies

Cryptography and social deduction game played in and around Rittenhouse Square park in Philadelphia, PA. Participants solve clues and complete missions while attempting to deduce who among them is a traitor.

HEIST

Co-design for Waxwing Puzzle Co. with Andy Patton. An emergent capture-the-flag game played inside the Art Institute of Chicago. Players attempted to “steal” (photograph) particular pieces of art and “escape” while preventing members of the opposing team from doing the same.
